What is moo.mk?

On the one hand, moo.mk is a free, simple, minimalist URL shortener, allowing you to turn a longwinded URL like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Keynes#Birth_of_a_'new_city' into something snappier, easier to remember, and much, much shorter, like moo.mk/birth. Shorter addresses can be randomised or customised, they're perfect for inserting into social media posts or popping on to publicity materials to save space and be typed quickly, you can a create a QR code from your link, and moo.mk offers analytics on your short links so you can get a better idea of who is using it and when.

On the other hand it's so much more. URL shorteners are everywhere, and chances are you've used one before. But what does your bit.ly or ow.ly link say to your visitors other than it's short?

moo.mk screams Milton Keynes! From the all too familiar MK abbreviation to the call of our iconic concretus breed of cow, using a moo.mk link is a way of shouting out that you're in MK and proud of it. It's about showcasing and promoting our city. A moo.mk link tells your visitors that you are a local part of our vibrant community.

Who's behind moo.mk

moo.mk is the product of too much imagination and spare time on the part of Ryan, a loud and proud, born and bred MK-er. Ryan was one of the first cohorts of children to be born in MK Hospital after it opened in 1984, and has family on both sides that stretch back generations in the towns and villages that would become a part of the city. He is now a local Parish Councillor, Trustee for Arts Gateway MK and a campaigner with #SaveThePoint (amongst other things).

Does Milton Keynes have it's own domain now?

It does not! .mk is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) of North Macedonia, and in no way associated with Milton Keynes beyond the incidental MK moniker. Similarly, moo.mk has no associations with North Macedonia, and beyond the domain name no data is stored there nor services provided from there.
